The Kinsey scale was created by Dr. Alfred Kinsey, and attempts to chart the level of someone's sexuality over time. The scale shows that it is possible to be between sexual orientations, and that very few people are only one sexual orientation. It measures Hetero- and Homosexuality from 0 to 6, with 0 being exclusively Heterosexual and 6 being exclusively homosexual.

Asexuality and The Kinsey Scale

In the Kinsey reports of 1948 and 1953, Kinsey added a scale for Asexuality as well. The Kinsey scale can be seen at the top of the AVEN Triangle as well as on many other models.

Table of the scale

The scale is as follows:

Rating Description
0 Exclusively heterosexual - Straight
1 Predominantly heterosexual,
2 Slightly heterosexual,
3 Equally heterosexual and homosexual; often called bisexual.
4 Slightly homosexual,
5 Predominantly homosexual,
6 Exclusively homosexual - Gay
