GirlInside joined AVEN in October 2007.  She was told about it by a friend, who in turn heard about it from another friend.  (For convenience, GirlInside will be addressed using feminine pronouns; as her username implies, she considers herself a woman in a man's body, though she prefers the metaphor of a woman in a society that defines gender by physical appearance.) She has no interest in sex as a man; because she would be open to sex in the female role, she thought of herself as a Grey-A for a long time; since joining AVEN, she has sworn off romantic relationships and realized that she is Aromantic.  What she is looking for is, as she puts it, "someone I can be like sisters with--not that I expect it to actually happen."  She has decided against raising children as well, for a variety of reasons.  Instead, she has adopted five guinea pigs who satisfy her maternal desires.

GirlInside's beliefs about life are unusual, even among AVEN members.  She is somewhat Antisexual; she believes that sex unnecessarily complicates the lives of sexuals (and thus complicates the lives of asexuals as well) and identifies with many of the listed reasons behind antisexualism.  In her own words, "I wish sex didn't exist and humans just grew out of stone like dwarves."  (She is referring to the dwarves of the Chronicles of Narnia series.)  She tends to think of female culture as "just the way things are, the way everyone should be" and feels that men are too foreign, "like being in a country where the people have really strange customs and hate Americans."  By her own admission, she thinks of women in the same light as people of her own race and culture.  For this reason, she often finds herself in opposition to many feminists; she thinks of female culture as a legitimate culture worth preserving rather than a handicap to overcome.

GirlInside is best known for her website: Boy On The Outside, Girl On The Inside, a very informative site about transgender topics with a special emphasis on the topic of being transgendered and not changing one's bodyShe created it after searching for transgender information and finding almost nothing about the many transgendered people who choose not to "transition" (change their bodies through hormones and surgery)For many reasons, GirlInside has chosen to keep her male body and go through life presenting as maleShe frequents other sites, but is always recognizable by the name GirlInside (or sometimes girlinside123; the number comes from Sesame Street) and her avatar: a picture of Ariel, the title character of Disney's animated classic The Little Mermaid.  She takes steps to make sure that no one can identify who she is in real lifeHer "photograph" is a feminized version of her actual appearance, made to resemble the characters of The Simpsons.  She never uses a first name, but her profile, in the field for the first name, simply says, "Call me Sarah."  She also does not reveal which U.S. state she lives in, but simply says, "You can think of me as living in whatever state the Simpsons live in," referring to the unidentified location of the fictional town of Springfield.

In 2010, "GirlInside" became a practicing Roman CatholicHe was baptized as a child, but he and his mother were out of the Church for many years until their returnWhen asked why he became Catholic, he says, "I saw all the moral relativism in the world and knew there had to be a better way." (Contrary to popular belief, the Catholic Church does not see transgender people as any more inherently sinful than anyone else; while sex reassignment surgery is seen as a sin because it is considered mutilation, people with transgender feelings just have a difficult cross to bear and are told that they need to be celibate, just like people with homosexual feelings are toldSome Catholics believe that it is a mental illness that needs to be cured, but this is not official teaching.)

On her site, you can see "an explanation of being transgendered in plain English (the FAQ), a list of famous transgendered people (which includes royalty and even a pope!), a warning against changing one's body, a firsthand account of what it's like to grow up as a girl in a boy's body, a few tips on how to feel a little better, a description of a culture that would have raised me as a girl, a growing collection of articles from other sites, and, of course, some links."

A 2016 interview revealed that he no longer considers himself called to celibacy. He says that, during prayer, he was “called by God to marry and have children.” When asked about any remaining gender issues, he said, “I no longer have a desire to be female or even to see myself as such. None of that even makes sense to me anymore—hasn’t made sense to me for years. That person you remember no longer exists. The truth has set me free, as Jesus says (John 8:32). By the time you read this, I may very well be a husband and father.” When asked for any last words, he said, “If Jesus can change me as He has, He can do the same for you. He says, ‘Come to me, you who labor and are burdened: and I will refresh you.’ (Matthew 11:28)”

"GirlInside" joined AVEN in October 2007. He was told about it by a friend, who in turn heard about it from another friend. (As the username implies, when he was on AVEN, he considered himself a woman in a man's body. As the quotes imply, he no longer identifies as female.)

He is best known for his transgender website Boy On The Outside, Girl On The Inside, which no longer exists.

In 2010, "GirlInside" became a practicing Roman Catholic. He was baptized as a child, but he and his mother were out of the Church for many years until their return. When asked why he became Catholic, he says, "I saw all the moral relativism in the world and knew there had to be a better way." (Contrary to popular belief, the Catholic Church does not see transgender people as any more inherently sinful than anyone else; while sex reassignment surgery is seen as a sin because it is considered mutilation, people with transgender feelings just have a difficult cross to bear and are told that they need to be celibate, just like people with homosexual feelings are told. Some Catholics believe that it is a mental illness that needs to be cured, but this is not official teaching.)

In 2011, "GirlInside" officially declared on his blog (which no longer exists) that he is "moving on" from his site to "other things." In other words, his transgender internet identity is no longer in use. He will no longer be posting on AVEN.

Furthermore, that same year, he abandoned the transgender philosophy as a result of his "relationship with God," as he describes. As he explained, "No one forced this decision on me; it was made out of my own God-given free will. I know some people will think I've been turned into some kind of zombie by the Catholic Church, or that they threatened to burn me at the stake, or something stupid like that."

When asked what made him change his mind, he said, "God was patient with me; it took six months for me to understand that manmade definitions of gender are not valid. God gently reminded me that He made me male, and that to go against this was part of the moral relativism I joined the Church to escape. While it isn't a sin to be that way--something is only a sin if it's an act of free will--it disagrees with the plan of the God who made us male and female.'" He added, "I am so much happier as a Christian than I ever was as an atheist."

In 2013, he said, "Thanks to the grace of God, I no longer have any desire to be female. Even if He offered me a complete transformation into a woman, I would not want it. I'm still called to celibacy, but for different reasons." Near the end of 2013, shortly before his thirtieth birthday, after "a long time praying about it," he deleted his website. "I no longer believe any of my own words. Actually, they aren't really my words. I was a completely different person before my conversion. The Bible says I'm a 'new creature' and 'the old things are passed away' (2 Corinthians 5:17)." When asked if he will ever rejoin the asexual community, he said, "No, I've looked at some of their posts on Christianity; anyone who talks about the Biblical view of sexuality--or the Biblical view of anything else--is ridiculed, censured, and mostly hated. I've found this to be true of Internet forums in general, even Christian ones. It's becoming more and more clear that the Internet is no place for a Christian. I think it's time to 'shake the dust off [my] feet' (Matthew 10:14) and move on." He has gone to his old online haunts and notified them through his posting signature of his conversion to avoid confusion, because "people were still sending me private messages after all this time."

He says, ‘Come to me, you who labor and are burdened: and I will refresh you.’ (Matthew 11:28)”
