Gender may be described as the "brain sex" of a person. Typically, it corresponds with a person's physical sex, as male or female, and they are considered cisgendered. When the physical sex and gender do not match, they are considered transgendered, gender varient, or genderqueer, depending on how they identify.
If the person is physically intersex, the line for transgender is blurred significantly. It can be thought that any gender an intersexed person may identify with could be considered cisgender.
